Good News: US Elderly Poverty Rate

US poverty for those 65 years and older stood at 28% in 1966. It dropped to 24% in 1970. Just 1 in 4 elderly Americans lived in poverty. 😦

The poverty rate fell dramatically to 15% by 1974 (1/6) and then to 13% by 1984 (1/7).

It reached 10% in 1995 and has since declined slightly to 9% (1/11) by 2006 and stayed at that level ever since.

We can do better.
